    Tax, unearned income

The renting for a small fee is likely to get caught, but the turbine or advertising boards could be used. A discretionary trust would be needed - private schools often have 'trustee's days' for a reason! This cannot be done without serious professional advice and it is not something for the...

    Tax, unearned income

This is something that can be done and can be really useful tax planning which I have in place for some of my clients, but is also something that can go very wrong. There is a lot of legislation around this and there needs to be enough distance between the child and where they start earning...

    600 litre sprayer

Got a Quantock (same as a Jarmet) here, 1000l, 12m, might be a little big for you but £450 + VAT takes it. Think it needs new diaphragms in the pump, but nothing major. In Somerset, just south of Bristol.

    Meadow Churn

The Maryland butter is churned from whey from the Barbers cheese factory in Somerset, the milk field for the cheese is pretty local compared to some and I wouldn't expect any imported milk to be in it. I'm not sure what stage it is transferred to Cross Hands, but is either tankers of whey or...

    R and D tax credits

Plenty to do with them here, but you need to be trading as a limited company and really doing something outside the box. There are plenty of cold calling specialists who will overstep the boundary of what is R and D, so take great care.

    VAT Application

VAT registrations are an absolute nightmare at the moment, and have been for the last couple of years. Short staffed and every excuse under the sun, the only way is to keep on at them. Online applications working better than paper.

    Accountant

As an accountant and a farmer it saddens me to see a thread like this. Providing the scope is accurate, the charge is huge. There is either a reason for costs of this level (multiple meetings during the year, business support, management accounts, estate planning) which is being misunderstood...

Making Tax Digital - year end.

It's coming, but like various other changes coming in we don't yet have the full rules to work with. Farmers averaging is still here though to be used. Be very careful about if and when the year end is changed though, there are ways to spread the long period over up to 5 years, as long as...

    Tax relief on electric cars

They would be correct. Private use bit depends on whether it is a company or a partnership/sole trader. Tax relief on electric cars gives you approximately twice the amount to spend as on a car with an engine. Which is useful, as they cost approximately twice the price.....

    Family trusts

Driven by tax planning, they can be a very good tool, advise it in the right situation. Driven by asset protection, they often cause toxic feelings and family fallout. It's the motive not the tool.

    Xero - tips and tricks

Thanks for the tag @Andy26 . The typical farm that is mainly producing food will almost certainly be worse off financially by using cash basis for VAT, as it is not always possible to pay bills in the same month as the invoice date as no matter how well you pride yourself on paying on the nose...
