Maybe I was very lucky with what I started with , as only a handful have gone for feet ..... Do reckon that foot shape is an inherited trait that can be bred-out quickly .
Why not , if on lowland , just get some Lleyn ? Or Easycare type . The Exlana look Lleyn-like without the wool . If I was years younger , that's the way I'd go !!
Do breed my own here and gives a head-start . On strong land also . Only keep stock off good-footed ewes , never Footvax , and any ewe lamb that has an issue is gone . Ruthless , but achieved the goal very fast ..... And they are lasting as now got rather too many 5 crop and over !
NEVER trimmed feet here for last 7 years . It's all rubbish and wrecks them . Odd bad footed gets killed ...... If trimming feet , one hasn't caught up with modern age and reality ! I thought barmy , but tried concept , and will never go back to the old ways ..... And I'm a 60++++year old...
It's a while ago . On records , but bulls now defunct . AI man said they'd had issues with other BSh on the gestation . Worst went 2 weeks over . Blues way easier
They went as stores , and no great demand around here , The BlueX were way better .Used a couple of BSh AI sires and found the gestation rather long ..... Much prefer to use the Blue , as plenty of short gestation bulls available .Find them better than the AA
Cotswold seeds are useful , but I'd seriously rate Francis Dunne at Field Options . He knows what he's talking about and would also tell you to not waste money if that was the right answer ......... Your choice in life .....
Found Swish great to reduce the total season fly population , but the crucial bit is to do the 1st application EARLY . I find it quite noticeable how few flies I see near the cattle .
Years ago used a Hamp , no probs . Recently .... Charollais , Lleyn , Blue Tex . Never found much diff in lambing ease , it's hitting the feeding and management right that matters . Overall the Blue Tex had a slight edge here , but on creep they'd be more likely 36s than 40s . Never got too...
If you used Butox Swish b4 , you'll have dropped the fly population a lot . I did mine for 2nd time about 10 days ago . Did same last year and found it useful product ....
Ewes here all crutched out in individual pens at lambing . Just stick a halter on and tie up ..... 1st time they jump about , but remember proceedure after ..... Simples !! Way easier than doing them later on .....
Yep , but need to follow the bumph on when you can shear post application .Use Clikzin on the ewes , so need to leave for the 8 weeks here . Actually dobbed on 21/4 and sheared 21/6 this year . Done like this for years now . Great peace of mind , and despite cost it's way better than chasing...
