How many sponged ewes would a ram serve over a 2 day period if I was to hand mate them? ie let ewes in one by one.

Reading instructions for this and they mention different dose rates depending if ewes had already gotten pre lambing booster. Understand if ewes are not vaccinated the lambs need 2x2ml doses 4-6 weeks appart. So what is the regime for lambs when mothers got their booster 3 weeks pre lambing...

Brought some lambs to factory last week and the easy care killed out just as well as the non easy care. Some were even over the 21.5kg cutoff. Ended up buying 20 more easycare ewe lambs and hoggets so will get out of my non easy care over the next year.

Only have 5 easycare ram lambs and weighed them at the weekend. 45.00 44.20 43.30 37.50 42.90 The non easy care ram lambs weighed between 40 & 44 but would be 2-3 weeks younger. Will be going to factory in next 2 weeks so will have an idea what they kill out at then. Still considering keeping...

Weighed a few at the weekend and they weighed heavier than expected. Not as well as the non-easycare but not too much less.

Other lambs seem to be filling out better but as you say, maybe its the wool. Plan to weigh a few of them this weekend so will update the thread then.

Wexford. Do you know any breeders down that way. Length and height doesn't seem to be the issue. They just don't seen to be filling out like the other lambs. Lots of grass so that's not the issue. Ewes are a good size and I saw the ram that the lambs came from and was in no way small.

Thanks Woolless. Have around 4 months before I need to decide anyway so gives me more time to see what way the lambs go. In Ireland so not many easy care around so sourcing a ram close by may be difficult. A large easycare breeder about 130 miles away but its a long round trip just for 1 ram...

Thanks all. Have a good bit in a field reseeded last September. Due to weather, not spraying after seeding and a bit of poaching there's quite a lot of it in the field. Spread urea last week so hopefully that will get the grass moving and outgrow the weeds.

Plan is to graze half and lease out other half for silage. Only starting out farming here so new to all this. Will have access to shed in 2 weeks time so will take sheep off and get some fertilizer out. Hoping weather will pick up too. Plan is to get more stock once grass improves

In relation to the sheep as it was only stocked at a little over one sheep to the acre I though it would be fine but maybe I was a bit optimistic

Reseeded filed last September. Was in barley before this. About 25 acres. Soil tested before hand and PH was 6.6, P was level 3 and K was level 4 so all good on that front. Had 30 sheep on it since middle of October to try tiller it out. With wet weather etc not sure if grass has done well...

Probably pure breed for the first few years to build up numbers and then see about cross breeding a percentage of them to see what kind of lambs I'd get. Only have 30 acres so will never have a large really large numbers anyway. Only starting out as I said so only have 20 suffolk cross hoggets...
