    alternatives to shakearator legs

Seconded. Metcalfes made us some adaptions and we now use these on our cousins v-form. We ran a discerator years ago (shakearator legs) and swapped it for a quivogne scd subsoiler (Pluto legs) with a carrier mounted on the back. Big improvement on heavy land

Planning Applications, PD and the like (General Chat)

Apologies if this has been covered in this thread previously. Putting an application in for a roof to cover an existing silage clamp. In the list of documents required is a “planning statement “. Is this something that refers to housing development solely? Last time we applied was in 2019, and...

    Farm Subsidies......expand or GET OUT???

Should diversification be completely separated from the farm income? It is providing diversity to the business output, some years it may outperform farming, other years maybe not so. Also farming has often provided the raw materials for a diversification project (redundant farm buildings for...

DIY gravel cart suggestions required for stoning drainage trenches

We’ve done this 2 different ways in the past.Bulk load of stone tipped and bucketed into trench with load all. Soon get the knack of tipping correct amount, level with shovel in the trench. This year we had stone delivered in bags, one man cut the bag over the trench while load all operater...

    Frost protection for toilet cubicle

They look good , bit concerned about leaving the tenants to switch them on or off as it looks like the thermostat on them works at 15c and over. Will thermostats work at lower temperatures, so the heater kicks in just above freezing?

    Frost protection for toilet cubicle

Building some toilet blocks for industrial lets on the farm. No heat source as such in the building itself , what would be the best way to prevent frost damage to toilets/plumbing? Was thinking maybe insulate cubicle and install a small electric heater on a timer / thermostat. Anyone with...

    Nature Notes

After the wet March our spring beans emerged very patchy, leaving areas of soil with no cover. The upside to this was a favourable site for 2 pairs of lapwings. Whilst spraying in May I noticed 3 very well grown chicks . We have a lot of winged predators about , so was chuffed to bits that they...

    Claydon with Sulky hopper/ metering

Have you managed to sort this ? We have had issues with ours also. S oats were a pain, wouldn’t flow through the drill had to put them through the cleaner twice, beans can be a nightmare if there’s any pods left in the sample, we had to get the seed cleaners back to pass them through the system...

    Spring Beans on Chalk Downland

We’ve grown spring beans for 3 years now and they fit in the rotation well. Where we grew them on higher calcium soils (assuming your chalk would be the same) they did really well. Much more reliable than the other spring break crops we have grown in the past

    Pine Martins To Be Reintroduced?

We were lucky enough to see a cock capercaille . The keeper had had to rehome it as it had gone rogue and was terrorising cars on one of the local roads. As you say magnificent birds. He said he can remember his father ,who worked for the forestry commission, treading on the nests of the caper...
