Sounds like the project won't have to be in until the end of summer? I left my application so late I missed the growing season so did a survey based project which to my surprise was accepted. How about, compare approved adjuvants for generic glyphosate. Or survey weed seeds in say combines or uncleaned machinery by sowing gunk and seeing what comes up using say cold treatments, drying periods and warm/cold to investigate seed dormancy, maybe counting seeds to get an idea of germinability and cost effectiveness of sanitary procedures, Investigate cutting heads off tall weeds that stick out above crop to see how much this reduces seed returns - as those weed surfing machines do, at various times of seed maturity. Can you tell I like weeds? Anyway choose something that you find interesting. Best preparatory work I did was to read and reread the CRD website - everything you need to use pesticides lawfully is there. The certificate is after all to show you are a safe practitioner. Good luck.
