I won't call them "Officers" as it gives an unjustifed aura of importance to RSPCA employees... Had an incident over the weekend in which we had a report that 3 men were seen wandering around my land and that of a neigbours, with no permission, after parking a pickup on my land off a private lane. I approached the men and asked them who they were and what they were doing. I told them they were trespassing and had no permission to be there. None of them wanted to engage and two headed for their vehicle and would not be photographed, but then one told me he was from the RSPCA. I asked for ID, and I was shown a card which I photographed. The man then told me that he was investigating reports of Badger Digging.... I again told him that he had no permission to be on my land, and asked if the Police had been informed regarding the allegation, and had he consulted with the Wildlife Police Officer or Rural Crime officer. He had not done so in any of those 3 cases, and in fact appeared to be unaware of their existence I left shortly afterwards, and reported the incident to the local Police Rural Crime officer as we had reports of these men before and the whole tale did not seem straight... The RSPCA know nothing about any reports of "digging" according to the Police, and we are waiting to hear more on the vehicle etc.. But, I discussed this with a friend later who sent me this message. "I have been speaking to a couple of mates, and apparently the anti cull activists know that the cull is more than likely going to go ahead in our area, and they are looking for excuses to find the setts, so when it happens the can send the hunt sab nutters to protect them. That truck they had is not rspca, I bet its probably linked to the hunt sabs and they are his mates" So just be aware folks. The Police also advised me, that there have been reports of fake RSPCA attempting to take dogs off people with dubious justification...
