So with winter usually comes my expansion of house plants for greenery. Which then proceed to die fairly quickly. Last winter I thought I might try my hand at a planted aquarium but after purchasing a used tank off Kijiji, I decided the way I was planning was going to be too expensive. So the tank has just sat here. Started doing some more research last month for a method that, if it works, will be much more cost efficient. So I’ve been working on setting it up! Started substrate on Friday and filled and planted on Saturday. Water has settled nicely by today so I’ve got the pump and heater placed as well as a woody decoration. I have got a couple pieces of real wood picked out but they’re currently soaking so that they’ll sink. Otherwise I’ll just have bobbing roots. If all things work right, and the plants don’t die, then it should cycle and stabilize itself in a couple of months and I can try adding some fish! Next week I might be able to go dig some slough mud and water up for some bacteria. And it’s just in time. Today the world went white.
