Hi there everyone! My story; I originally grew up on a farm in Wiltshire which my father owned. I loved growing up on the farm however one day my father died suddenly in a tragic accident on the farm just a couple of weeks before I turned aged 6. Upon my father's death, my mother suddenly had the farm foisted on her and she fell into a pit of depression. But although the farm survived (it was almost declared bankrupt not long after my fathers death) and my mother eventually got over her depression, my childhood was very tough (I often didn't have enough food to eat, my mother suffered a lot from mental health problems and the farm was very isolated etc). Growing up on the farm, I was very involved in on life on the farm. For example I helped planted thousands of tree's, I raised hundreds of chickens over the years (for pets, eggs and eating) and I was always doing jobs around the farm (although officially, the first proper job that I did was roguing when I was around age 11-12). But on the other hand, aside from my brother, there weren't any children my age growing up nearby (the neighbouring farmers were all quite elderly or distanced from us etc), the closest neighbours we had were hardly what you would call close at all, there was next to no steady employment or career prospects any of the local villages and home life was very difficult etc. And so although there were many aspects about the farm that I loved, at age 16 after meeting my partner I moved out of the farm to start living and working elsewhere (and I never looked back). Except that, I always hoped that I would one day be able to return to the land. I didn't miss the full extent of the isolation on the farm that I grew up on (I don't ever want to live in such an isolated place). But I did miss many other aspects of it (I love fields, tree's, wildlife, cattle, chickens, the smells and the open space etc). And as silly as it might sound, having my own field has always been a dream of mine lol (a life goal). I want to be back involved in farming somehow, I want to make a living from the land, I want to do something good (to produce food and be good towards nature) and I want to return back to my roots! But try as I might, for the longest time, buying my own piece of land didn't seem like a financially viable option (and land prices just kept on going up etc). That no matter what happened, having my own little piece of land just seemed like a pipe dream. But more recently I think I might have finally managed to accumulate enough money to finally buy some land! But I have SOO much to learn. And I don't feel like I can ever go back to the farm that I grew up on (for advice or anything). I feel very on my own at the moment (all I have in this venture at the moment is ambition). And I don't want to be a mere landowner- I want to be involved in my land! Soo...I hope to try and learn as much as possible here. I will try to be helpful whenever/wherever I can, but I might also badger you all with a lot of questions! Thank you all for your time (and I look forward to getting to know you all better). Apologies about the long post!
