I watched it last night and thought it was really good, yes, the first part seemed to be blaming farmers but overall I felt that it gave a boost to farming, in that we can all improve what we are doing to help the planet as a whole. Before covid, last Christmas, there seemed to be a lot of farmer bashing regarding the environment; seemingly meat was shown as bad, animals being blamed for polluting the air; cereals grown for animals being portrayed as a waste of resources; artificial N apparently poisoning the water; and ag chemicals also apparently poisoning the water - basically anything the farmers did was seen as detrimental to the environment. On our farm we are doing more direct drilling, more cover crops, sheep grazing cover crops, adding compost, adding sewage digestate and no Glyphosate pre harvest. Unfortunately the compost has too much plastic in it, so we've stopped it, yes it was PAS 100, the public have to do their bit with their recycling. The complaints about the smell of the sewage digestate are huge and not spraying off a crop before harvest can lead to a few problems. The sheep get out because its temporary fencing, more slugs because of direct drilling, the list goes on! Running my farm as a business we must prioritise making money. I only make money if the public are prepared to pay the real value for responsibly grown food. (Yes the Governments SFP makes a big difference!) Everyone needs to do their bit and that includes the public.
