2008 /9 MT1840 had massive problems with Boom Sequencing - usually resulting in ripping all the internals out and shoving them out the back! early 17 mtr Bobcats suffered the same. You need help from a Manitou Construction Dealer who experienced the problems at the time - The boom was totally redisgned because of the problems and the new boom then had a "chain system" like Merlo Use and JCB on their 540-180 model - the trade would never buy a used MT1840 with the old boom system - the chain system is very easy to spot as it can be seen as it comes over the external boom ram roller - those in know put old spec 1840 machines into Euro Auctions and other auctions to get rid to unsuspecting new owners. Suggest you do the same - the cost of repair in the late 2000's was around 12k - you can double that now - you need a box of Swan Vestas to sort it out - some early 1840 had the boom replaced with the new style boom but it cost Manitou a fortune in warranty and customers vowing never to buy Manitou again it was that serious. Like all Chain Booms they need to be kept in adjustment as per manufactures instructions - the MT1435 and 1440 that were launched at the same time were trouble free.
