Written by Rachel Martin Dairy giant Müller has launched a new programme to help UK farmers improve supply chain collaboration, herd health and their farm’s environmental impact. Müller Advantage aims to help up to 600 Müller Direct dairy farmers operate successful and progressive enterprises whilst also proactively addressing a range of issues important to consumers and customers. These include managing and further reducing the use of antibiotics, sustainable sourcing of animal feed, reductions in energy and water use, recycling and enhancing biodiversity. Participation by Müller Direct farmers in Müller Advantage will be incentivised, with an opportunity to earn an additional payment of 1p/L in 2021 (equivalent to £15,000 for a 1.5 million litre a year producer). Müller Advantage will also incorporate Müller’s Next Generation initiative, which helps to develop and enhance the skills of ambitious young farmers. The programme is seeking its second cohort, following the successful completion of its first batch of participants.
