I started this thread not because I disagree with on going professional development but because of the heavy handed attitude of Nroso. I have been to a few very good events to get points, and I have come away thinking that I have learnt something. Unfortunately this has not happened many times. My issue was that my 3 years to get 30 points is up now. I have only 29, since I have had my statement I have done 2 courses which should put me over the 30. Neither of these have shown on my account yet and I am told it could take up to 30 days. I have an email that says if I don’t get the points within 45 days (with Christmas in the middle) my current suspension will be permanent and I will not be able to rejoin for 12 months. I am certainly not the smallest farm or the largest but I am the only one here licensed to spray. So if I am booted out I would have to get a contractor in which I don’t want to do and cannot really afford. I may not be able to sell my crops as the email says they won’t be assured and I may not be able to feed my own product to my cows, without threatening my milk contract I found this email very threatening. I have told Nroso over the phone that agriculture is a very tough industry to be in at the moment, I said that in this day of talking of mental health they should think before something like that is sent, it could quite easily cause serious issues to a farmer who is already overly stressed. The answer I got was that the email is computer generated and I won’t be thrown out. To me that makes the situation worse, the computer is blamed but somebody will still have had to write the email. Nroso really need to change their attitude, yes do the cpd points. But perhaps concentrate on proper training and not just making sure they can get plenty of farmers on their courses with their high handed attitude. It is not right. Bg
