There are all sorts of exciting air rifle pellets that can be used safely inside buildings these if you do some research but a dark moonless night and a bright torch and you can catch them by hand. Not sure if plastic pellets would protect against damage to roofs. I know that there are pellets made out of sugar for use in feed stores. I am sure there will be others. In my youth as a student, I used to catch feral pigeons for falconers. One asked me to get him some. Me: How many? Him: Oh, as many as you can get! Same question got the same answer. OK, so the hunt begins. There was a derelict row of cottages where pigeons roosted, gaining entrance via a few broken slates. Crawling along the roof spce dragging a sack got me a couple of hundred. Next, I learnt of a church tower. Yes, there were pigeons, but way up two flights of a ricketty wooden ladder, then crawling from one joists to the next with no floor except a rather hard one waay down there at ground level. Far too dangerous! But the danger diminished with the pints, so a few more dos got added to the bag. I phoned my customer a few days later. How many have you got? Oh, two or three hundred. Ye gods, I thought you might manage 20! Moral, if you are going to do a job, make sure you get a detailed specification, preferably in writing! I still worry about all that money I thought I was going to make!
