A little story re 'experts'; I paid for a VERY expensive bat survey when I was applying for permission to renovate my Victorian smallholding. The specialist arrived in a new disco with an expensive number plate. We paid for him to tell us that there were no bats living on the place, I knew this as I had an electronic bat detector and had been enjoying summer evenings using it. I just didn't posess the correct qualifications to put my observations into writing... We have a regular fly-bys and a hunting, breeding pair of barn owls nesting in a neighbouring field. Their activities are monitored by the local wild-life specialist and the surviving chicks are ringed and recorded each year. I asked this supposed expert about barn owl habitats to which he proclaimed that our ground was unsuitable and that we were unlikely to have any nearby.......... So @Penmoel BO**OKS to the supposed experts! I'm sorry to hear that you suffer from their mis-informed expertise as well! JFDI the pond as it will encourage the wildlife way more than just a damp patch. I have done a few in my time. I won a £10k forestry grant award for enhancing wildlife habitat, in a past life. In just the above way. SS
