I've done it. Bought some land and an old house, done the house up and built a new farm yard and spend my days messing about. Nice to have funds to buy stuff that isn't a constant scrapyard challenge to farm with, no pressure to make any money if things don't work out but my produce does still win awards at a national level. The improved house and new very modest farmyard can be sold on for more than I could ever have made previously. That is at least as much luck rather than judgement. No regrets whatsoever other than not having done it sooner. This was quite a big partnership and I think all the partners are happy with their lot other than maybe the odd one or two that were stuck in the 1950's to start with. They seemed to see it as a terrible way for things to go whereas the rest of us took it as a massive opportunity to do whatever we wanted. House prices might tumble and my new place could well be worth very little (can't really see that happening) but I am very happy living in it debt free so no reason to sell anyway. If you are seriously considering doing it then think long and hard about how you want to spend your days. Many people say they are going to sit on a beach drinking cocktails but I couldn't stand that for very long. Also have a plan B in there somewhere because life throws some crap at you at times, that is very true no matter what route you take.
