The motivation comes from processors and retailers who cannot squeeze any more margin from traditional produce. Therefore they need to look to adding “value” to lower priced commodities ie processing. That’s why you’re seeing things such as plant protein being pushed, because it’s cheap to produce. However, the caveat to that is that it requires industrial processing in order to make it a. Palatable, and b. Digestible. That’s the 2 key factors, if a product is palatable and digestible, then it’s over to the marketing guys to make it attractive to consumers, only the products aren’t really attractive so they’re a tough sell in their own right. So like all sh!t salespersons, who run out of ideas, theres then a reversion to promoting their product by attacking the opposition and saying how bad it is. Throw enough money at these campaigns and you’ll convince a proportion of people. The goal is to get you to buy into the marketing, give them your pound and not the butcher, who then closes. The market for meat slowly dries up, production reduces, becomes uneconomic, unfashionable, unpopular, unacceptable, ultimately ceasing. Then you, as consumer are 100% reliant on the processors for your protein. You will be fed by “Pharmas” instead of Farmers. Your food will be produced by a few very large corporations instead of a joint effort of thousands of independent businesses. That is what is driving this, it’s helpful to the cause that there’s various academic institutions happy to take their pound and forgo their integrity on the subject, and there appears a ready supply of “useful idiots” to act as front line crusaders for the cause. But livestock more harmful than air travel? Take a step back and think about it. UK herd size has been in decline since early 1900s. It’s all rubbish. And mark my words if you consent to fake meat, it won’t be long till fake veg comes along, because veg farming is a lot worse for the soils than livestock. But that doesn’t quite fit the current narrative. Remember the GM crop protests? fields of wheat flattened by folk in white overalls? Trials, never to enter the food chain. Now we have available in shops, with no protestations, lab grown tumours and vat grown fungus as food sources. 🤷🏻♂️ Why no public outcry? Follow the money.
