But, but, but, we know with decades how to export meat and dairy and so forth to third countries. USA, Japan, China, etc. Compliance and paperwork, IT systems etc, have to be right down to the last syllable. ROI meat industry is ready fir third country complications. I work in engineering myself. 40% of trade is EU. No problem there. Frictionless trade. It’s a doddle. 35% is to USA. Each consignment has a raft of paperwork, covering everything from tariff codes, weight declarations for every single individual part on invoices, multiple copies of everything, special packaging and documentation to specify compliance, height to weight restrictions on individual pallets, final pallet wrapped in black (silage wrap type) plastic, etc, etc. Special designated area within packing department for US bound products. Open to random inspection by customs throughout the year. Now US stuff, is a pain ..... but Japan and China 😬😬. Unreal. Finally once or twice a year a couple of pallets go to Brazil........ to be honest, just not worth the hassle. Usually ends up being delayed and held up for weeks in end. Wouldn’t bother doing it, but it’s for one of our European customers. They don’t want the complications, so have us ship direct. I have spent a life time in this business, and I remember Europe before the single market / customs union. Why anybody would want to go back to that, us beyond all comprehension to me.?
