[QUOTE="Howard150, post: 4664582, member: 30002"] Went on a speed awareness course about three fortnights after Eddie Stobart trucked off to his last resting place. 80% of the candidates should have bin made to take a test again with at least 50% of them being banned for the foreseeable future seein as how they constituted a danger to both themselves and others by virtue of their lack of knowledge and understanding of the Highway Code. Out of 60 candidates in what was none other than enforcement agencies benefit day, there were only two of us who only got 2 things wrong. The greater part of them were down in the 20 or 30% region. For my sins my two were, first a red circle with a plain white centre. Got the bit right about it being a prohibition sign but was wrong about it having to be qualified. It is of course (senior moments aside) ‘No Vehicles’ and secondly the speed limit for trucks on a motorway. Examiner picked most pointedly on me for this one - me avin’ a Class 1 (they asked at the beginning if any of us had HGV licences). Straight away I said 56 havin driven a million miles with a speed limiter (seems like it) stuck at 56 mph. and qualified it by saying ‘did you not hear about Eddie Stobart (died aged 56) RIP Eddie Stobart - Limited to 56! Said examiner (more’n like of questionable parentage) took great delight in telling me just exactly how wrong I was and that speed limits (at that time) for trucks all ended in 0 and were A roads 40, Dual Carriageways 50 and Motorways 60. Comments about limiters and age of vehicles fell on deaf ears. In built up areas speed limits are as per signs for all vehicles- 20 30 or 40. If unsure as to 40 limits in built up areas then check side roads. Where 30 signs are at the junction of a side road it usually means the road you are currently on is at a higher limit. For A roads cars and trailer combinations are still 50 but the limit has apparently been changed from 40 to 50 for trucks, much to the delight of millions of truckers who historically had run the gauntlet of either speed camera’s or mile long queues of enraged motorists. Despite poor owd Ed bein limited to 56, the National speed limit for trucks on a motorway is aparrently 60 Although you would be well advised to check any conditions pre disposed by the age of your vehicle. Quote from Transportsfriend ‘Although lower speed limits will apply in built up areas and on many local roads, all regulated vehicles may be driven at up to 50 mph on single carriageways and up to 60 mph on dual carriageways.
