WHICH QUAD

Looking to buy a quad for looking cattle and sheep plus to put a sprayer on back for thistles ,nettles etc ,fields are pretty level so perhaps dont need 4wd , never had one before so looking for opinions on which ones I should be looking at .I have seen a Honda trx 250 for sale which is in good condition but is this big enough to put a 60ltr sprayer on back , any thoughts.

I think youd kill a 250 with a 60ltr sprayer (if your filling it full). Not even the 420 is rated to carry that weight on rear rack - hence why so many complaints from gamekeepers and the arable boys with broken racks/chassis running about with feeders/slug pelleters mounted on them...

Youd need a bigger bike. Honda, Yamaha, Can-Am will all do grand, its just a job to pick which one.

Or you could go... diesel

you wont do better than a honda, we run 2 trx 350 4x4 bit of age now but more nimble, lighter &economical than newer models .60l is 60kg so probably will be ok

As @GTB knows you can(y)
I got a knackered 09 Honda 420 gearbox at less than 1800 miles, not a patch on the TRX350 which is a far better bike.

Try a Can-Am , cheaper to buy run and maintain, and would out pull a Honda anywhere.

Another vote for can am. They seem to be superior in every way to the others(although I have been told by the guy who sold me mine the cvt in the Yamaha is stronger) and people alway forget to mention they are way more comfortable.

I changed mine a few months ago. Checked out everything else didn't really think their was a contest. Can am won hands down for me anyway.

Here's my 2p's worth.

We run a 250 honda for fectching cows and light towing. It went in for accident repair and we had a 500 as a loan. Feckme didn't that thing drink fuel! IMHO if you want to do a "bit" of spraying get a small trailer to put the tank on if need be but don't buy a bigger bike just for a couple of days other use, it will cost you in fuel.

A 250 can be lifted out if you get stuck as well.....not that i ever have....much!

Gearboxes were always a Yamaha weakness... but they are mighty good bikes these days with the CVT. Europes no1 selling manufacturer i believe? Stiff ride and very upwards sitting position though, soar on your back like a Honda.

The prices sound good for Can-Am and iv not heard a bad word for them - but honestly, the comfiest bikes on the market are (were? Havnt sat on the new ones yet) Arctic Cat. Just a shame the standard bushes are made from tissue paper.

Yamaha 550 will drink about 4 times the fuel of an old Honda TRX300.
The clips that hold the panels on (which have to be removed to access air filter etc) are rubbish, ours was stolen and the new owner will have found the tank cover panels are only resting in place without any clips.
CVT and Hi/Lo shift is very good though.

My 2014 Honda has done 30,000 k and this week had to have a new handbrake cable because the old one seized up. That's the first thing it's needed other than servicing.
Due for change in March and will probably go for either Polaris or Can-am. Both cheaper and come with power steering and heated grips!
Back to op 250 would probably do the job 60kg sprayer on the back isn't a lot especially on flat ground and it's not like it on everyday. Unless you're a big fat bugger then it might be a struggle!
