Have to say its great relief knowing my perfect stack of 1200 big hesstons are all sold to power station.. No hassle.
No trying to sell every bale privately.
No fussy dealers rejecting bales cos they got inch crap on bottom bales etc..
Will be doing double next yr if all goes to Plan..
Have 700 oat bales under cover and they will meet the big furnaces at sleaford also unless they fetch good money..
Have 500 mini hesstons linseed straw also waiting same fate..

lol, well I have read many threads on this and the old forum and been told many times over the years by smug folks at mart that it is cheaper to buy in than make your own hay or silage. The year comes along when I may need to buy a bit and I'm not sure that is true.

You can't rent grass down this way and make hay to sell at £70-80 ton that's for sure.
Factor in 1 in 5 yrs you prob loose the odd 30 acres due to rain and £90 ton seems cheap

Straw is doing 90 ish down here, you can't expect to get hay cheaper than straw

Yes, would only give you £2 mile, your 250 miles away, but plenty of straw 150 miles away, I pay £3.75 mile even on backloads to Devon.

Derricks and back cost over £450-500 in diesel. And can only just be one in a day.
With no traffic hold ups.

To get cheaper straw you need to beat the 200 mile mark , your then out of range of the one day trippers

ive been buying wheat at £40 ton off the field 178 miles from you. Plenty of barley around Cirencester at £50 ton.

Was off field stacks, tops were fine really. I sold a stack off a farm to Gareth Gammage (top bloke from your way) at £50 ton.

Everyone is in the same boat tho Derrick with regard to weights, we were getting good weight in barley at 450kg (2170) but bad in wheat (410 to 440). Have done a deal on an XD to give some baling options with hopefully the longer chamber helping.

transport charge by the load if the load is light you lose out ie transport costs 500 you only get 10t on where you would be getting 12t selling at 90 a ton well you get the picture
