Hi- Spec feeder wagon

How much straw in the mix are you talking about. We did have a 14 mix max very happy but couldn't work with a pile of straw 100kg or there abouts would be fine. She made a lovely mix.
We now have a 14 hi spec tub its great with straw.drop in a round bale of straw 180kg in 1 go or 250kg from square bales no problem..
Tub is easier to drive. I use a 1987 JD1640 65hp 8900hrs ago.
The paddle needed 100hp

sound good to me anything to look out for on them as never used one as always feed the cattle in ring feeders but everyone keeps tell me i should move on to a feeder wagon as they say the feed costs will come down and the cattle will do better is this right

Nothing that i know gives bother. She might meed rubber on the end of the paddles but you can get that anywhere.

It will only help if you can get reasonably well set up for it and if you have an old tractor to drive it. I hate to see my good tractor on it putting up hours and not even handy round the yard. It helps with sore back tipping meal in with the loader

They are good but you will find a 10 won't mix much straw and silage together. It gets a bit fluffy and falls out the top. We had a job with about 2.5 ton or more in ours inc some molasses.

As with all barrel type mixers you need to watch out for worn metal in the barrel. Not silly money to get them relined though. I ran a mix max 10 for about 8 years and got on well with it but don't try mixing in more than 100 kg of straw as others have said.
Take one of these over a Keenan any day.

I like the look of the hi spec mixers with less moving parts compared to the keenan, probably cheaper and the paddles having being 'boot' shaped compared to the keenan's which doesnt break the fodder up, just rolls it over and over

Unless it's an elevator part everything else is either bog standard bearing, chain or sheet metal. Mine had aircraft tyres fitted, stamped on them not to exceed 220 mph! Really tough which was a good job as I think they were split rims.

keenan unloads by means of a sliding door on the inside of the tub, lifting up to reveal an auger which brings the ration to the front where it is pushed out of the door.

Have had 3 now , got a new 14 cube one a few years ago all been very good apart from the tyre's & the aircraft tyre's fell apart on them all the last one was less than a year old when the tyre's started to come apart & the area Sales guy from Hispec would not do a thing about it, He was was just a total A***** , But he is not there now !!!, if it was I would not have another one as his way with dealing with problem was a joke. All so you will find a Hispec holds a lot more than a Keenan ,as Keenan class the unloading auger as part of the mixing area.10 cube Hispec Same size as a Keenan 14 cube.

Had my 20 year old hi-spec 10 out today (tub mixer burst a hose going under the elevator)(n) still a good mixer just a shame it doesn't chop, the only reason I have a tub mixer now.

As others have posted holds more than a Keenan with less wearing parts, bet the 3 Keenans we had before it have been scrapped and recycled a couple of times in the 20 years since we had them.

Had our mix max 10 for nearly 20 years. Been relined 3 times and been a very good machine (bit like triggers brush). Had it for dairy cows but they are no longer and use it for the beef cattle through the winter. We like that theres less moving parts, the paddles are individual and angled so mix forward and back, better than a keenan. Also have an elevator on ours, will throw silage into a 5ft feeder no prob. Would struggle with a keenan, don't think they can take an elevator.

Relined ours in a day, just get steel rolled and drop in with loader, remember talking to a bloke( n. lancs, s.cumbria) who'll come and do it in a day for a grand, you've a new machine.
Only shock we've had was elevator chain wore out , wanted over £600 for a new one, sprockets on top!
Put a belt on instead.
Great machine.

Elevator chain is robbery, stuck a flat plate on mine,ok for feeding onto floor but no good into a trough.:(

I've been tasked with selling one of these for a neighbour. A 1996 mix max14. Was told it is in good working order and not done a great deal with it in 5 years of ownership. Had a look round and it looks in decent order for it's age but needs new rubber strips on the arms and has a bend in the top opposite the unloading elevator otherwise the barrel and unloading chain is in good condition. Any idea of value or best place to sell? I was thinking of sticking it on ebay but there was talk of taking it down to beeston on wednesday or anybody looking for one?
