Marking a field for ploughing

But don't pull in and out on the headland tramline unless you want a kick in the knackers from the sprayer driver!
No I lift out when the front tyre hits the tramline.

Besides I'm ploughman, Drillman (obviously ;)) Sprayerman, Fert spreaderman corn cart man, and Balerman here so if it's rough in the wrong place it's my knackers I will have to kick.

I leave about 10m, 8 lengths of my marker poles to be exact, i know its a bit slow, but for long runs i use my poles, and just do the short bits by eye.

as above, tip plough to about 70 degrees, and carry it so its back furrow is cutting about a 2inch deep scrape

This I have done. Me and the sprayer op didn't get on very well, so I pulled up one in every three runs. Annoyed the hell out of him. I just laughed. Should have done a better job with the harrow imo...

I was told to leave 1 and 1/2 the length of tractor and plough away from edge. And this normally means the headland tram.

But I guess with a huge plough this wont work as well.

my father had an old ministry ploughing guide. to mark a field out properly, send an old boy to walk around the edge of the field holding a piece of string. Tie the other end of the string to the tractor bonnet. if the driver keeps the string taught, he will have a perfectly marked out field!

Run round the field with one wheel in the inside tramline leaving a scrat with the back of the plough probably 5m inside that, then you have room to do a U-turn at the ends while turning over your plough, no shunting, and drop a gear/cut the throttle a bit while doing so (7f Kv semi-mounted)

Shouldn't matter where your ins and outs are ,I use the tram , plough on a 45' angle , if throwing endriggs in always throw your first endrigg furrs out then back in to level ins and outs , if throwing endriggs out always adjust vertical stops so plough is on boards , shorten top link and put lift onto position and your last back furr will be very shallow , key is to start properly and you will end properly

I always run the plough just at the start of the turnover so you can run the rear point along the ground if no tramlines I get out and pace out how ever wide the tramline will be then drive with a view point say the bottom of the side mirror or even a mark on the window On the hedge bottom it's not perfect but it's good enough

It's how I do it with students aswell. Workes well in principle!!! It's getting the 'bit' when to drop and lift the plough that proves slightly harder!!!
