No oil pressure?

Fitted a new oil pressure gauge on my 4 cylinder 35, the pipe was broken and blocked off when i bought it, showing no pressure at all, so it must be faulty gauge? Could oil pressure be that low without it seizing?

I would be inclined to try another gauge first. Probably only needs 5-6 psi to keep it from seizing on light duties.Might not register on a cheap gauge. Run it with no pipe connected to the engine and see if there is any oil flow let alone pressure.

An old Major engine I have in a Chaseside shovel will barely move a gauge (or a second one I tried). It has run around on light play but I guess real work would finish it off.

Another thing to check - make sure the pipe hasn't been hammered flat somewhere along it's length.

Well if it blows up just work on the theory that it needed a rebuild anyway

the FE 4 cylinder 35, has main bearings the size if dinner plates, and a very slight wear will let oil out, and therefore a drop in oil pressure will occur, just because it has no oil pressure, don't mean its not getting any oil, it could mean there is plenty of oil getting there, just nothing to hold it in,
with a cold engine, before starting, screw the relief valve adjuster in, you will find it on the oil filter housing, count the turns in, start from cold, it should show some oil pressure till engine is warm, if there is something there, return the adjust screw back to where it was, if to low and worried about it, then full rebuild is needed

just to let you know how to do mains on the crank, the engine must be removed from the tractor, take off the sump and drain all oil, sit engine right way up, remove the head and front timing cover, turn engine on its side, remove con rods c/w pistons, remove timing chain, remove clutch cover and flywheel, stand engine on it's front, is the timing cover end, the crank comes out through back of the block towards the bell housing as you might say, you need a block and tackle to lift it out, as it is heavy and awkward, ,
once out refit new mains to fit reground crank, and do the above in reverse order, best of luck getting it all timed back up spot on, as near enough will not do, oh and fit a good quality oil pump, or recon the old one, you will be better fitting a new timing chain and slipper as well, needs a complete set of gaskets and about 25 hours of time, best if you have a dial gauge for the timing,

Oil quality?
Oil strainer might be blocked?
Pull paper filter out, but it should go around a blocked paper filter ........
When running, loosen pipe to see if you have anything?
50:50 140 gear oil, if you want to try that .......

Hopefully just a lazy gauge .......

I fitted the gauge a while ago, but couldn't start it to check due to me fudging up a fuel pipe, i did spin it over on the key and oil squirted out of the pipe before i connected it
I have have taken the tractor into storage as i have far too many projects on the go, i think i will try another gauge before anything else

Just uave a look at the gauge check the needle isnt below the stop pin have had this a few times just lately peices of junk gauges quite a relief to see a knackerd gauge after a full engine rebuild phew i was happy...

that might bugger the gauge, can you not try it on an other tractor that you know has good oil pressure

Could test the gauge with a foot pump that has its own gauge and a lashed up fitting.

Compressor has a regulator (twisty knob on top of outlet pipe filter usually) screw it out fully, then just in until air comes, connect gauge .......

Or with the trigger gun, give it a jab of air .......
