Started on the leg mounted ones 4 1/2 yrs ago, told they would last 8yrs average, had quite a lot go already. First year or two, they are replaced f.o.c. last lot got a bill for most of the new price. Works OK, not perfect, but then none are. I am carrying on with them, partly because the cost of changing systems would be too great. I have tried to manage with just tail paint on a few where they have failed, and it isn't the same level of control, partly because I haven't got the manpower to do proper observation.

Pretty sure the ones they are pushing now are the neck mounted ones with rumination
We are on peds at the minute , but dont want to go from a good system to an other good system for the hell of it , from good to better is a different matter

What peds are you on at the moment? And why are you looking to change?

My Alta man said they had quite a lot of failures with the old cow alert system. This is why they had changed to the Needap system which so far had been very much better.

BouMatic sell the Nedap system, The rumination version qualifies for the leader grants. They can also come with GPS so you can find specific cows in the housing.
pricing is pretty keen compared to others.

There are two versions of heat detection systems sold by Nedap.
Leg mounted which measure steps, standing and lying times.
Collar mounted which as well as heat detecion also have eating monitoring as standard and the enhanced version which includes rumination and cow positioning which uses beacons in the sheds to locate the cow.
Nedap recommend neck devices where cows are grazing, all systems are based on 2 hour intervals and are monitored remotely.
