A terrible Day

Had a horrible day here.

Pure Angus about 2 weeks ago calved and her calve died at 4 days old (suspected sat on at the time in big pen with 6 other Angus Heifers)!

Bought a big Blue X calve in for her to rear and spent a few days getting it to feed and going! Was doing fantastic inside and today decided to put it out with a group of 4 other Angus Heifers with calves....

We calve came steaming out trailer with his mother which riled up the others that were sitting peacefully! One of the other heifers had a wee go and nudge at the calve but nothing major and sat down again 5 mins after.

Past the field about 4 hours later to see young calve up top of field lying flat, got up there and was obvious it had been pummelled by one of the other heifers.

Took to vet and was deemed to have had brain damage so had to be put down....

Want to cry, shout and shoot the other heifer all in one go [emoji22][emoji22][emoji22]

Id want to shoot her too but it wouldnt do any good!
Few years ago i had a bull in beside some stots because i had no where to put him and he killed 1. Rammed it into a corner. Found it in the morning upside down in a knot. Threw the bull outside for rest of the winter. Feck him!

Couple of years ago I had a cow so protective of its calve it actually killed the calf when it was a few hours old by pummelling it all the time.. bitch!! Last night I calved a nice bbx cow, 2 lovely twins.. she will have absolutely nothing to do with them , again , bitch!

she's not a bitch, don't call her a bitch, you have to ask yourself why she is dong that

I will ask myself that, I will also ask her while she is casually chewing silage in corner of pen with no care in the world about these two calves of hers to please take them and feed them.... or walk away for an hour or 2.

What a bummer @bruce9001 as we all know sh*t happens that shouldn't and makes you wonder what the hell is it all about. If she is okay otherwise, I'd give her another go, heifers live in a parallel universe to ours. Just put it behind you and carry on, you can't win them all.

@Lazy Eric has your cow let down her milk? Sounds like she needs a little help to get the oxytocin flowing. (OTOH maybe she was sold with calf at foot because she did the same with the last calf?) Good luck.
