Would anyone care to comment as to whether they self insert Prids (into cows just for clarity), we only have a small herd and with a mixed farm it is difficult to do much heat spotting, I find syncroing heats to be a winner.
Any comments as to whether receptal and Estrumate can be bought legally without the vet administering?
Everything we buy comes from the our vet and always has done but it does no harm to look at other ways.

Estrumate can only be administered by a vet as far as I know

If you don't have time to watch for bullers why don't you just tail paint cows or invest in some kind of heat detection system like heat time?

No real reason why except for a small number of cows Prids are so easy and take away the guesswork.
We seem to have a fair success rate with them for a modest cost.
Just don't see its any cheaper than a bit of paint especially if you have to have the vet out, fair enough if it's a non-cycling issue but don't feel it's "right" to use prids etc as a heat detection aid, just my personal opinion

Cost wasn't mentioned but you are right, prids are part of the answer to non cycling issues , we are hoping to build a new unit in the next year as what we have isn't up to scratch and part of the problem with the current set up is that cows aren't in good enough accommodation to allow good heat expression.

Where do you buy it from them?
@multi power is right, my vet will let me keep estrumate on farm, on regular fertility visits and often need to estrumate none seens. Always been told it's dangerous, but apart from being harmful to pregnant women I can't see why
