Off Mains Toilets

hello all, I'm working on a project and will need to install a toilet block near a small lake, what is the best option, small cesspit, klargester or compost toilet? any pros or cons? i want good facilities, with a shower also. what have people used in similar scenarios? am thinking of getting a prefab unit, do any come with some kind of cesspit system?

I have a little toilet which has a 21litre clean water tank, 21litre septic tank and you put a cemical in each... take your poop and flush it away and once a week I throw it in the back of the truck and tip it down the main storm drain in one of the fields.. comes out just like pee water the chemical must eat all the poop and paper up as it's all just water when I empty it and no smell

we have a composting loo here in the caravan, us two most of the time but obviously have visitors from time to time. I run urine through floor to a separate bucket with solids in an internal bucket. Empty both about once a week.

With the amount of use the OP envisaged it would be far less than the contamination by the local wildlife/farm animals.

We have 2 of these:

Very easy to put up. Took me about 2-3 hours total and work well. Once the IBC is full you can replace it and store it away somewhere until it's ready for tree planting etc. Not sure I'd put it on my veg.

Comes with a solar light which is motion (!) activated and is actually pretty posh.

Built our own compost toilet, basically a seat over a 240 litre wheely bin with a bucket of sawdust to hand, just looked at the above link and yes it's essentially a thunderbox. The benefit I would say of ours is that we can wheel the 240 litre bin out the back by hand and replace with an empty one, you're not shifting a full IBC by hand.

Yeah, I've seen those. Looks like a good idea. We won't have a problem with the IBC as with a few parts taken off, the IBC will slide out from one end and we have a bobcat with forks so should be fairly easy. Hopefully.......

We have composting toilets on our campsite and camping barn, as others have said it’s essential to separate solids and liquid with a bespoke separater seat. Biggest problem we have is idiots poring nappies and dog poo bags in them. We have instructions up to tell folk not to put wet wipes etc in and mostly it works ok, just not nice fishing stiff out that shouldn’t be in there.

I guess really, it would be better to let it all compost down for a year or so and then landfill it anyway. Bound to be contaminated stuff in there.
