It's pretty obvious that those who are put forward for election are carefully vetted to have the correct opinions in place even before they go to Westminster.

It certainly isn't about have a good skill set, IMHO it's about ALL politicians working against the general public.

You have a right to vote not the right to elect. If your view is correct enough people will agree with you.

It's a good idea but people don't necessarily vote FOR something and even if you did the parties are not obliged to bring that policy to fruition.

Of course they aren’t, circumstances alter cases. You vote for the best person for the job, policies are a guideline to who that is. Anybody could stand on one simple policy “I’ll react as I see fit”. And if you don’t like it vote differently next time. But you don’t have the right to dis-elect either.

I've never voted for a person .. how can anyone know the character of someone they've never met .. you vote either for a party or against another party.

All they'll do is get whipped to vote on the party line, whats the point of voting for a maverick that will be ignored?

Parliament is full of idiots that got where they are because they lie the best in the selection campaign, or the tick the boxes on inclusivity, when you get bored of MP's making vital errors, you might agree there needs to be some sort of educational test for candidates to be elected.

You might as well say the franchise should be tied to a minimum IQ.

It might aswell be with the caliber of MP we have at the moment.

we might aswell have direct democracy.

There’s an argument for that. It’s the purest form. But are you prepared to pay for it? It’s also the most inefficient and expensive form of government.

That’s why there’s hustings. That’s why they bother with Election literature.

I've never heard of hustings until recently .. they are not well attended. From what I have heard is it just the main political parties putting their selected candidate forward. It's not a place to chose who fits the job within a party.

Yes, so why add to it? Have you seen Election turn out figures? Even the Brexit referendum was embarrassingly low. Who would turn out for interminable referenda on minutiae?
Good governance costs money

Why do you think there is such voter apathy? mostly because they feel when they elect one of these imbeciles, nothing changes, mostly because they follow the party whip....
