Yes. Every vote is a popularity contest unless you fiddle with the system so that less popular politicians are elected.

It was 52% of the voters who turned out, not 52% of the country or even 52% of the franchise
Not everybody who voted for Brexit voted UKIP and if they did because of the Brexit stance there’s no guarantees they would agree on any other policies. Brexit voters came from the right and left of the spectrum
You’re making the same assumption as Mrs May did last year and she got a bloody nose. General Elections are different, they are not one issue contests.

Cant say she got it wrong with 40% + of the vote, all thats happened is, instead of people wasting their time voting for the Greens and other parties, they tactically voted to screw the tories, on brexit, Labours offering didn't differ much

If only 52% of those with a right to vote, exercise that right and do vote, the other 48% get what they deserve.

countries previously pushed one side by
Merkel.

In a roundabout fashion UK has become the defecto leader of the EU project with Germany and France often teaming up to cause trouble for UK.
