Getting less pleasant .....

If you count fried eggs, onions, and cold leg-of-lamb from last night as 'good', then yes, yes I do.
It's all locally sourced, too, my coffee had to travel the furthest (y)

Hell yeh - when I get my arse in gear to get out to NZ, one may just seek you out to give me a tour of your mansion (y)

There is a lot of uncertainty and frustration in the industry at the moment and for some people the only place they can vent is on here. We aren't that isolated where we are but can quite easily go days without seeing or speaking to any one else apart from the family and coming on here and just having a read can make the days go easier. To those who are isolated this place, even with its occasional back biting, can be a breath of fresh air on a crappy day.

You have to let it out, somehow!!

I have a big motocross bike, I think we are at that point where we are equally fearful of one another, but release is as good as a tonic.
Some farmers will only ever really relate to others in the industry, and TBH it can become a big whinge-fest.

Being proud or positive is almost taboo.

I have a few off farm roles that generally require me to be quite diplomatic, even when my personal opinion is very different.
I also work with family members.... this also requires some serious diplomacy (I doubt I need to elaborate!)

Fortunately even something that really winds me up tends to wash over in 24hrs..... usually destroying a cake in the mean time helps.... or just a bar of cooking chocolate like tonight :hungry::LOL:
The cake is probably just covering the cracks where the politeness is chipping me away inside :LOL:

In all seriousness my partner is a GP and she often has had a day that puts my "British politeness slowing killing me" firmly in persepetive.

If it wasn't for the fact I know you..... I'd be worried that was a chat up line.... still gonna keep my back to the wall at Somerset AGM just in case :p:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
I have a ram a bit like that . He has love in his eyes

Dropped my fence tester in the paddock and kicked it through the grass for a hundred yards before I was game to bend over to pick it up ;):p

Certainly be pointless if we all thought the same.
A bit more respect in the discussions/ arguments wouldn't go amiss at times though.
Never gonna happen though. Some people know exactly what they're doing, and play on it, and other people are completely un-self aware of their effect on others.

What makes me smile is when somebody disagreeing with you is instantly a troll. Lowest common denomination debate . A troll is a troll. Someone holding a contrary opinion is just that.

I think there’s a fine line between a heated debate (which makes interesting reading) and been down right nasty/personal (not such pleasant reading), some don’t know where that line is or when they’ve crossed it though! I love a bit of playful banter and humour as much as the next person though, it’s knowing when to stop :stop:
And your playful banter and humour may be extremely offensive to others.

This forum is just a (cracked ) mirror of Society. We are never all going to get on. It's almost not worth worrying about. If someone bothers you, then don't spend energy on them. You wouldn't in your real life.

As I said there is a difference between playful banter/humer and been down right nasty and abusive! I’ve found most on here to be pretty light harted and enjoy a bit of banter, I very often get my leg pulled by a couple of members and find myself chuckling at there comments:ROFLMAO:. Life’s to short not to have laugh!
I can only think of one occasion someone wrote a derogatory comment on one of my threads:eek: My reply wasn’t nasty or hurtful but I put the straight without been abusive and that was that;). I’ve seen others just looking for an argument though:facepalm:.

True, we have lost at least one if not two generations now to “political correctness” and “hurt feelings” but let’s not get into politics and needing a “safe space” just now:whistle:

Yes, best leave thse areas well away from discussion - they cause far too many debates than they deserve air time over!!

So many good posters have left since the forum started , or don’t post much. There used to be a happy band and I hardly noticed a bad word. Why did they leave?

I’m thinking of people like @stuart , @Flossie , @eulb @Steakeater @YorkshireAndrew @7610 super q @multi @static ,and of course Carole had a way of keeping everyone in order.
Some posters now just grind you down and there’s no reasoning or discussion . Some posts are just too long and keep banging on about the same stuff, whether that’s Brexit ( which is a lot to blame), or someone constantly telling us we are whinging poms.

My favourite threads are the ones where friends call each other trolls as they troll each other :ROFLMAO:

Having a sense of humour is quite a handy thing, it beats scuttling under a rock every time something loud happens nearby.

(If that's the case, stay well clear of the internet is my best advice, because people say worse than stroker on FB)

Now, you great folk may have realised that I'm not British
but it is well noted that British folk try hard NOT TO OFFEND EACH OTHER even if they basically die a little inside by not doing so - so is this place not simply an outlet for pent-up frustration? Conflict is part of being alive.

However it does get a bit silly, all the same: there's a brexit and politics section full of cobwebs and yet straw can be about politics as much as choosing rams for next year or buying a new tractor.
Few industries are as complex and interwoven as UK agriculture.

But I would let any one of you into my own home, all the same.
Just don't all come on the same day, FFS
I would have thought a "mob visit " would fit in with the way you farm, we could clear out the fridge & pantry & move on to the next Tff farm :D:D:D(y)

Well. I'm still here @silverfox . It's just the desire to post gets less as time goes on. The light touch moderating isn't really working any more I don't think, unless you mention a certain subject, when it turns to heavy handed moderating.
I'm bored of the endless farmer bashing threads, if you don't like it find another job , whinging poms, and Brexit comments.
In short, it's not the same forum I joined 4 years ago.

The perception amongst elements of society in general these days is that the internet gives them a platform to spout off vitriol and bile with the degree of anonymity that prevents them from doing the same in person (that and a lack of balls!?). This forum, whilst a more targeted societal group, will still have the same percentage of those type of people who will crop up and generally be unpleasant. I think it says an awful lot more about those people than it does about those who want to engage in balanced debate. I wouldn't say the forum is changing, Id say its just the way society is slowly changing and the forum to a degree reflects that!? By the same measure, if you don't like it just stop contributing it. Pretty simple really.
