I would of thought insecticides and fungicides would of done more harm, as for glyphosate who do you believe, Nfu spokes men say its safe as houses where as scientists the opposite. I gave up spraying back in the 90,s , just the smell of ipu gave me a head ache.

my bee farmer mate sprays roundup round his hives as if there is long vegetation round the hive the bees get lost and end up in the wrong hive

striming or cutting is not advisable round hives as the bees get angry when engines are run close to hives

Not unlike the neonic trials, the doses had to be massive to have a measurable effect. Far in excess of any "field" dose. Not good news though.

...theoretical risk, but in practice, would there be many bees in the fields where farmers are spraying glyphosate?

No, the vast majority of scientists say that it is safe too. Only a very very small number, possibly chasing funding to keep them in work, have ever managed to suggest that glyphosate ‘may’ be harmful in any way. Unfortunately though, they shout quite loudly and those few individuals are the one’s that get the press coverage they desire.
