Anyone got rid of there miscanthus and put it back into arable production? Got 90 acre to take out. What’s the best way? Spray’s and what dosage and timing?

Harvest it, 4lit roundup on new shoots, plough/ disc rhizomes to surface and leave to dry out. You’ll get some regrowth but it’s sensitive to most selective graminicides used in combinable rotation

How tall should I let the new shoots get after harvest? Thanks for the information.

Have removed it by putting it into IRG. Topped with flail topper, then wait for 12 inches+ of fresh green growth minimum before spraying at max dose of a serious roundup product, plus LI700. All dies, then you can disc it up.

You will get some regrowth but a second stab of glypho and the presence of another crop seemed to do for it.

I think it may have actually improved the soil if I am honest as well lol.

Got rid of 150 acs locally few years ago . As above : it was cut off in April with forager , left to regrow 12 - 18 inch , sprayed with 4 ltrs roundup with wetter ,lots of water. Left month , topped with flail and disced [heavy set]. Disced again 6 weeks later ,left 6 weeks. Couple weeks before drilling wheat, another round up/wetter disced and disc drilled/ rolled . Normal spray pattern after.Did get some growing in crop but no problems. He is a plough man so for second wheat he ploughed , This had been 10 years as Miscanthus and land was sold because Bio firm went bust [Biacal}

We took out 2 fields of miscanthus several years ago with glypho in June/July then ploughed in Aug/Sep. Rhizome root masses clogged the plough a few times leaving soil heaps which we then beat down with the power harrow. There was a bit of regrowth in the following wheat crop, but it seemed to go through the combine ok.
The regrowth is never there when normal herbicides go on, but pops up just as your cereals are heading. I can't say that they were a problem though. Nowadays we always spray off just before direct drilling in autumn which has dealt with the remainder.
