Does whiskey prevent heart attack?

does a small amount of whisky per day help prevent heart attack?
Earlier this week a112 year old lady died .... she had a small glass every day... I have not drunk any alcohol for several years ... because of my 2 grandfathers but might start again!!!

Er no. My father’s cardiac problems were exacerbated by alcohol consumption. All the heart medics he saw advised him to stop or cut down drastically the amount he drank. There’s no actual evidence that alcohol is good for the heart that I could find. The evidence that it can be detrimental to heart health is well documented and overwhelming.

I had quite a severe heart attack 20 years ago , driving . They got me out of the cab and put me on the workshop bench . This was about 5.00 a.m. I disconnected the workshop oxygen pipe , and got a bottle of whisky . I had alternate gulps of whisky and oxygen , and by about 10 am I was feeling quite a bit better . Family insisted that I visit our G.P. ( a family friend) . And within 15 minutes I was in intensive care . They said that the whisky had helped by thinning my blood , and the oxy. had reduced the work that my heart needed to do , and that I'd probably saved my own life . (I had a multiple bypass shortly afterwards - best job ever . All that was 20 years back , so something must have helped .

(y) It's a well stocked workshop that can furnish a bottle of whisky at 5 o'clock in the morning.

Yes , just so happens that my son's farmhouse is literally 5 metres from the workshop , and fortunately he keeps an odd bottle or two in stock . Purely for medicinal purposes of course (As I do !) In fact , as a bit of a follow on from the earlier post . I had to go for a check up two or three times when I came home . One visit , the doc asked how I was doing . Very well sez I , except that just as I'm starting to feel better , it's time to take some more bloody tablets , which make me feel worse again . Right comes back the doc "We're not in business making people feel bad -- what makes you feel better then ? " A good slug of whisky and a bit of company Sez I . Right , that's your prescription from now , taken regularly . He wouldn't give me a prescription for the whisky though !. It must work , because I'm still here 20 years on .

At our wedding my uncle had a minor heart attack, he didn't realise what it was, but someone bought him a beer and he felt a lot better. A week later it happened again and he went to a+e ended up being admitted to hospital for several days.

As above the doctors said the beer at the wedding would have relieved the symptoms by thinning the blood.

My father was in Nobles Hospital IOM with a very bad crick in his back . The resident doc came along and asked about his health and diet generally . He told him , and said but I do like just a drop of Bushmills Black label occasionally , is that OK ? The doc came back with "When I get to your age (pushing 90) there's no bloody young doc going to come and tell me to lay off the whisky - a little of what you fancy and all that ! Worked for him OK .
