I took a photo specially. As you see a small bench doesn't guarantee that it remains clean but at least there is not that much to put away. People can also balance things on the welding trailer when they are desperate too I notice.

My thoughts re. Hight , if its for u then whatever is right for u is correct.
I thought about hights of other stuff around, saw benches , tressels ECT, tried to match up , but if tressels were low then raise them .
What ever hight my main bench was . I raised it few inch other year , things may evolve...
Im 6' 7"

Very fair piont regards a flat surface collecting shite , i aint gonna photo my bench . A manifold sat behind the vice has been there a LONG time. Id say go 8x4 6mm or thicker , but flat surfaces do collect .......

On YouTube there are a few ideas. One I’ve seen has a chain system to raise and lower it. Another has a scissor lift built in to lift the wheels off the ground. All well and good if all you want to do with your time is Make a welding bench as a pass time. I do find wheels both a blessing and curse.

Mine is two railway sleepers sat on two breeze blocks bolted back to the wall, then another layer of breeze blocks and sleepers again. You struggle to sit something on it without it rolling off.

Been thinking about doing a new bench for a while.
I have a rickle of various benches, cupboards etc lined up one wall and there just isnt enough room to store stuff/work area.
I was thinking or replacing the lot, along the lines of 20-25 ft long with either box or angle legs, and the back frame extending up to support shelving, and the front doored so to provide storage out of site for power tools, tool boxes, 20litre tins of gear oil etc, couple of vices fixed on too.
The floor slopes so would just make it to fit the shed.
Not sure how wide to make it though? Thinking 1m maybe? Think a fuĺl 4ft sheet against a wall is too much of a stretch.
You lot have me worried now it will just clutter up with stuff!!!

@davieh3350 I love the angle iron bench, but I guess you need a good bench to make it in the first place
It was the first one I made15 years ago. Steel came from a hydro station, it held the cooling system of a transformer (112 tons) that came from Winnipeg Canada
It's not that accurate but really handy for cutting sheets and for clamping work.
Fecking annoying cos tools constantly fall to the floor.
