It can be jackpot time around Christmas but it can also be well back just as easy Monday Tuesday this week was a fickle time. Unlucky more than anything I would say @muleman. We don’t want to end up like pig job either.Well it’s an odd time to sell primestock...should of been sold the week or 2 before
£4.30 Monday tuesdayIs that up on last week then?
Yeah think your prob right....i told auctioneer it was an experiment and they had to be £88 at least but he couldnt do it! Some lambs prob were making that to be fair but not my plainer grass fed ones ....think its horses for courses....when they say lambs are 'pounds' dearer live they should say 'some' lambs are pounds dearer live. But regardless of time of year its not first time its happened....last time i went live was end of june with some 1st draw top quality concentrate fed lambs .....took my scruffy pet lambs next day dead and made more!It can be jackpot time around Christmas but it can also be well back just as easy Monday Tuesday this week was a fickle time. I totally agree with you regards dead always beating live.been through lambs this morning and got 110 ready.got a load booked in for rpf next week and very tempted taking a load of 32kgs hill ewe lambs on the live on monday.smalls seem to be a lot better live than dead at the mo.knowing my luck id be better sticking with the dead? Were 4.25 this week
At least with deadweight you know your getting the full value for your stock ,we're not here to subsidise auctions , lamb buyers or abbatoirs ...its us farmers that does all the hard work sitting up at night lambing them, out in all weathers tending to them, you might as well get the full value, auctions can be very hit and miss at times.I totally agree with you regards dead always beating live.been through lambs this morning and got 110 ready.got a load booked in for rpf next week and very tempted taking a load of 32kgs hill ewe lambs on the live on monday.smalls seem to be a lot better live than dead at the mo.knowing my luck id be better sticking with the dead?

What weight were your lambs? And what price dw?Yeah think your prob right....i told auctioneer it was an experiment and they had to be £88 at least but he couldnt do it! Smart Texel x can often be more live. Anything with balls or horns often more dead. Mules usually more dead until March or after then live can overtake it when numbers tighten up. Mart buyers like to tell me how poor mules are until there’s nothing else then they are fineAt least with deadweight you know your getting the full value for your stock ,we're not here to subsidise auctions , lamb buyers or abbatoirs ...its us farmers that does all the hard work sitting up at night lambing them, out in all weathers tending to them, you might as well get the full value, auctions can be very hit and miss at times.
45.8 kg mules bid to £84 then for some unbeknown reason knocked down after the hammer at £83.50 (and they would want some luck which they never got cos i knew i wouldnt be back?)......deadweights killed out at 20.69 kg at 4.25 bid price....one or 2 u's will be more and quite a few o's less so came to 4.21 pperkg and £ 87.02....(.hard to work dead out 100% till list actually comes but will be within 20 or 30p of that for sure)What weight were your lambs? And what price dw?
I sent dw and lw on Monday (generally go dw) and like for like the lw was around £8 a head better.
Hit and miss is right! We wouldn't want to be without them but the buyers' new cars need to come from somewhere. I wonder where??At least with deadweight you know your getting the full value for your stock ,we're not here to subsidise auctions , lamb buyers or abbatoirs ...its us farmers that does all the hard work sitting up at night lambing them, out in all weathers tending to them, you might as well get the full value, auctions can be very hit and miss at times.
At the moment smalls have been about£7-£8 less on the dead.30k hill lambs making £57 live and dead paying £3.90 a kg x 12.5k=£48.75At least with deadweight you know your getting the full value for your stock ,we're not here to subsidise auctions , lamb buyers or abbatoirs ...its us farmers that does all the hard work sitting up at night lambing them, out in all weathers tending to them, you might as well get the full value, auctions can be very hit and miss at times.
All the pound coins straight in the pocket as discount!Hit and miss is right! We wouldn't want to be without them but the buyers' new cars need to come from somewhere. I wonder where??
