Senior civil servants are quite happy to play their own games and work against their bosses if it suits them.

My older brother was posted to MoD up in Whitehall for a couple of years. His take on dealing with senior civil servants in the MoD, FCO and a few other organisations was “Yes Minister is a documentary, not a comedy”.
Senior Civil servants have had there own way for too long, tail has been wagging the dog for too long . Sack em all.

There's a pub right by the M4 - half way between Reading and Swindon I think - that would be on the way from both of us. Perhaps after the current 'crisis' has passed. :)

there is a big difference between being a boss and a tyrant. Gordon brown was rumoured to have been like that and where is he now?

Gordon Brown was the Chancellor for about 10 years.

Tony Blair's actions in the two fake wars based on an Alistair Campbell dodgy dossier destroyed the Labour Party .. Gordon Brown was part of the same cabinet.

If the public had agreed that the lady who hassled him during his campaign was a "Bigot" then he would have got elected ..
