Despite nearly filling all the pens Bridgnorth had a flying trade with a couple of pens of hoggs making £3/kg! Sold ours between £2.60 and 2.81... I am surprised by the AHDB showing only £2.53 average, thought it would have been higher, perhaps trade faded after I left?... there where certainly a number of unfinished lambs that should have been sold as stores which didn't sell well and must have pulled the average down...

Pleased to hear they are up. The call I had this morning quoted them being down not sure if it was lw dw or where
How long has the f*cking bridge been shut in Longtown? You would think they could have put a warning on their mart adverts or website.Had to turn the box around and down the A7,then up the motorway to Gretna. What a farce! Some cheap in lamb Blackies today, scanned twins and gimmers as well,£67.Brought some back home for a neighbour.Wild buggers but heavy,or maybe i was driving into the wind all the time.Big side wind over the Esk and railway line.

I don’t know. I did see the signs on the M6 saying it was shut but ignored it as it was shut for hgv’s only and the signs were up then. Left pickup in Longtown and walked over the bridge.
The blackies were looking ok for the money today I didn’t get any of them though. Filled a 6 wheeler with Swales though.

Sainsbury’s full of NZ lamb today?

It needs to be there to be honest, due to the current high prices of British. There is not enough lambs for either of the big retailers to rely on UK lamb supply annually as we are coming to the end of the season and quality becomes an issue. Too many people getting greedy and finishing heavy / out of spec lambs for too much £££ which are not to retail spec. Also, very difficult to get that carcase balance where it's easy to sell legs this time of year but what do you do with the rest of the carcase? New Zealand farmers have it spot on with the way they produce and present what's wanted the other end. Until the producer produces what's wanted within the UK consumer base then nothing will change.

maybe time we started cutting the carcase differently , europ grid is well out of date , maybe less and bigger animals , and get past this age thing , a good 2t ewe is a far better eat than a 12 -15 week lamb (especially leg steaks) ,maybe even smaller lambs for certain markets , bet the ethnic market makes up a huge market these days .(has AHDB asked what they want in way of cuts ?) compared to housewife 30 years ago when the sunday roast and a chop or two was the white middle class end destination .

actually the kiwis dump their lamb bellies on south sea islands causing huge obesiety/health problems and destroying local fishing economy
