Just wondering how many Hogs are left in the system,i have about 1750 ,do you guys have more or fewer than last year, looks like its going to be a painful time selling them unless they are in spec and the export market opens up a bit. Seems from what I am hearing heavys are the least wanted overall.
When would you normally finish selling them? Hopefully you haven't brought them all lately?

450 but don’t normally send many until end of April. Busy lambing for a few weeks.

I have a fair lot of hoggs here but less than usual which I had thought was a wrong decision 700 ish. We will pull more gimmers out to keep if the trade is bad and cull harder at the other end. If trade is reasonable then we will sell as normal which is probably the most likely outcome here not because the price is likely to be good but because we don’t really expect to get a fortune for them in any case. There won’t be a fantastic amount of hoggs kept over due to dear store prices and recent poor returns apart from the big Hogg dealers. They keep bigger numbers each year and some have in the high tens of thousands of them. However they are still moving them. I didn’t buy any i just have what I couldn’t shift easily as stores.

Lot less hoggets here. With good trade we have been selling earlier than normal. What we have left are smaller Hoggs for Ramadan. All bought by end of November 19. Happy to sit on as they have done well. Only thing to add is that we would have gambled buying some framed hoggs to feed on hoppers this last 10 days but will not bother now so if some store lamb sales are not on perhaps those numbers might not be coming forward??? and will remain on farm as stores and struggle to finish this season. Will this lighten numbers i wonder, defo not pulling ewe lambs to sell .

Just had a text from rugby wanting export spec hogs due to better than expected demand. Talking of 2.10 region for them.

Text them back saying “I thought export had been stopped that’s why trade is shocking? ... I’ll fetch some but set reserve at £2.10kg”

Only just got up so not read much, so apologies if point has already been made. You state shutting country down for months is going to cause more problems as key workers cant get parts equipment etc. Rest of europe shut down so tractor parts wont be forthcoming anyway even if we opened up, if we opened up country im guessing it would be a 60 /40 split. 60% would be wary and stay in, high street stores pubs restaurants were not reaping it anyway, so the reduction in trade would put them under further pressure with same staffing costs. It will undoubtably have a massive on finance for not just next year or 2 but potentially the next generations lives. China unproved reports thinking that wuhan alone lost 42000 people. I started off with no concern or its
I think he’s poo ing his panty hoes !

Im not worried about getting the virus but I stress im taking every sensible precaution like staying 2 meters apart/ washing hands/wearing gloves etc when putting fuel in and so on.

As of last night Devon only had 91 confirmed cases out of a population of some 800'000 so there is more chance of getting knocked down crossing the street than getting the virus.

On the price front, local collection centre prices are around the 1.85/88 a kilo for hogs today.

Dropped my ‘huge’ pen of Springers at Welshpool with a reserve just now. Only a couple of rows of hoggs/lambs in. Market deserted apart from staff and concrete all spotless as only a couple of unloading bays been used.

Drove home past Wynnstay, who have someone at the gate wearing a mask, and RVT, which has all the gates closed to stop entry but are open for business. All a bit surreal.

You're a brave man if you bring them back, risking scab and maybe the virus. Hopefully there will be a good trade not many numbers about.
