Moved the herd into here today. Not Holistic Grazing but it fits our Holistic needs: the rest of the paddocks haven't really got going yet and this has been rented out for the last 15 years for the cashflow. It's been cut for hay each year and has depleted the soil.

They've got around 1/4 of the 40 acres and will stay the for the next 10 days before we start cell grazing the field next door. It also gives me a bit more time to recover from my myocardial infarction before I restart daily fence moves.

Not bad thanks. I'm walking round the farm daily, driving machinery on the odd occasion it's needed and setting fences up using the trike. I'm told it could be over a year for full recovery though. Time to adopt Pete's approach to "work".

I went for the really cheap and nasty £8.50 simple reels, the plan is to replace with top end geared reels once we make some money selling some beef! Went for the £50 per 1000m wire, again once the beef sales start coming in I'd like to move to the 9 strand polybraid at £80 per 500m.
Stick with the cheap & nasty reels if they work for you, as @som farmer says VOSS geared reels are only up to light weight poly wire, also would not recommend aluminium wire, great connectivity but breaks at slightest kink.

Aye the owner of the farm picked up a 10kV 0.2J energiser and about 600m of aluminium wire at a farm sale for £5 and keeps asking if I'm going to use it... I keep finding polite ways of refusing! I unreeled about 90m as a test and it had dozens of knots where it had broken and loads of broken wires sticking out of it! Handy in an emergency perhaps?

Well I had a small success today, I setup about 20 posts and 200m of wire across the sacrifice area where the bull and his 4 boys are to test the system. Within minutes the bull tried to lift the wire with his head and got a shock right across his forehead. I heard the "tick" from about 50m away and watched him shake his head and decide that he had better places to be  It was amazing watching 1000kg of animal deterred by a tiny wire he could break without even noticing it.

Jesus. Sorry to hear that mate. Reckon fewer fence moves might well fit in with your interim holistic context!

Best wishes for a steady recovery.

Was it caused by looking at property prices on the' moor? ??

In all seriousness, glad you're on the mend, but take it easy! ?

I think these photos sum up perfectly the hurdles people trying to implement regenerative methods often face.

I have no actual clue why she decided to rake up the residue. My only thought is it's where the burn barrels used to be so she's either started as raking up garbage or maybe she wants to put the barrels back there. Either way I'm not too concerned. With the size of that pile I doubt she's going to take the job out much farther :ROFLMAO:

Yes, and leave lots behind!

The trouble is often "restraint" and for those of us who attack life like a cornered bull, allow yourself time to grieve for that.

I haven't had a heart attack, but I did break some skeleton.... almost the same rules apply when you're 17 and need your Mum to wipe your bum again, your mind is an awful place in certain situations. But, @holwellcourtfarm, you have a huge trail of mates and friends in your wake. Lean back on us (y)
