Looks good, what soil type? Do you have any close up pictures of the seeding slot?View attachment 900206View attachment 900207View attachment 900208
Drilling rape today into hard dry clay with our Virkar- I believe the first sold in the UK @Virkardd ? Making a great job considering conditions, just hoping the forecast for rain this week is correct...

That’s impressive. Is it a tine drill with. Twin closing wheels?? Me likey a-lotIt’s difficult to show well in a photo, but here’s a couple. Going slowly so very little soil throw and seed it getting covered well.View attachment 900295

Wheat into grass following application of lime. Done this a number of times before so hope for a good result View attachment 732118
Best if the grass is eaten right down to nothing. Drive slower than normal so the turf isnt thrown all over the place and off the seed. Top link may need tweaking to get the rear a shares at the correct depth.Stumbled on this blast from the past earlier and was interested to know how it went and whether you still drill into grass stubbles successfully.
I have forty odd acres to do this autumn and want to try and do it with my Claydon but am a bit nervous as it's year one!
Indeed, I drilled 35 acres barley yesterday, 30 acresHope to get it sprayed off this morning. Rolled last night. Perfect conditions at the moment, soil dry and friable. Why the fudge does it want to rain just now when everyone wants to go?! View attachment 910304View attachment 910305
Drill then spray?Indeed, I drilled 35 acres barley yesterday, 30 acres
of wheat today, going to attempt drilling into a small ley field.
Rolling and pre em tomorrow.
I have one maize field cleared but it does have some weed. I know you have drilled into maize, should I spray off first?
It doesn't look like much drilling until mid October after tomorrow![emoji852]️
After 140 mm rain now since drilling(and more overnight), some is not looking good. First couple of pics of wheat after beans drilled 20 days ago, pre-em before deluge and obvious drainage issues to blame. Second 2 pics of same field of wheat after rape, 2 doses of Sluxx pre-drilling and top up since and slugs have still got a lot of it, but where the volunteers escaped the slugs the crop is clearly much better. Slugs have been our main headache since starting to direct drill 10 years ago - apart from to stop growing rape, what is the answer?! Have tried cover and catch crops this year but they decimated these too...

Claydon A shares. Worn out on the right, bit of life still on the 4 on the left?

Difficult to tell with a photo I guess.
Thanks yes have tried this - the problem is that slug pressure is always so high in the rape (can't ever combine rape here at night as they will gum the grain pan in no time!) that the volunteers get eaten as soon as they germinate. That one area of volunteers is an anomaly. I though trying to drill a cover straight after the rape was worth a try but they decimated it too and I was reluctant to pellet at that stage.Have you tried a pass or two with a straw rake immediately after combining the rape? It will give you a better stand of volunteers.
