Did you know that those who view fox 'news' are actually less well informed than those who view no news at all?
You know that for a fact. I don't really watch US news but watched CNN for a bit as they had excellent stats. But holy hell. I thought the BBC was bad. So I scrolled through a few more US channels like Bloomberg etc. and it's all completely moronic. TBH, I'd rather wait a day and catch up with the youtubers who have a brain, are capable of critical thinking and are willing to listen to different views, rather than just push an agenda.

Well yes. It is true.

Also I don’t watch CNN, nor MSNBC, watch very little of anything in fact, NPR is good. I’d choose to read over any other media but the types of cbs pbs etc are pretty balanced.

“Ideological news sources, like Fox and MSNBC, are really just talking to one audience,” Political scientist and poll analyst Dan Cassino said in a press release. “This is solid evidence that if you’re not in that audience, you’re not going to get anything out of watching them.”

Again, this is not merely an opinion of a fiscally conservative, socially progressive, educated, former-urban dweller, but rather the conclusions of nearly all of the scholars that have looked at this issue. Academic studies have found a significant correlation between how informed viewers are and which cable news channels they watch. They confirm that Fox News viewers — and, to a lesser degree, MSNBC viewers — are less informed than other consumers of media. Worse yet, they are often misinformed about matters that are in the public interest.https://ritholtz.com/2018/07/americas-fox-news-problem/#_edn1 Perhaps most telling is that Fox News viewers are very often less informed than those who do not consume news at all.

I don't have live access to Fox so really have no experience. I've watched a bit of Tucker on y'tube and I think he has some points but again, it's really opinion, which is OK. It's very difficult. In the UK we have Talk Radio and LBC on the net and a million other channels and they are sort of chalk and cheese really. Still a sort of agenda although they provide a far better news coverage than the MSM. Maybe they are becoming the MSM. Then we have all sorts of channels from Mahyar Tousi (spelling?) to Owen Jones and all are worth a watch but obviously deeply political.

Oh, and don't trust academics. Most of them know jack sh1te about anything useful and their studies are a waste of carbon and oxygen. How do you know that people are 'less informed' and about what? About what they are supposed to believe? About what they are told is the truth? About how to fell a tree, mill it into 4x2, build a shed and create a nice supply of firewood with the rest? About the history of the US constitution or about how to replace or sharpen a chainsaw blade? About the writings of William Shakespeare or the inner workings of a carburetor or a fuel injection system? Who is more useful? I know who I would want on my team in every example above and the list goes on and on and on.

I'll edit this. If the sh1te hits the fan who do you want on your team? Stephen Fry or Guy Martin? Both may make you laugh but I would bet on the useful one making most people laugh more and for longer.

The truth is out there but it's very difficult to find. You won't get it through your TV unless it's online and even then this stuff is being taken down as fast as it's put up.

The graph was number of questions about domestic issues answered correctly out of 5.

That includes comment upon the constitution and just what powers the different branches of government have.

There was also a set of questions on international affairs and all those who took part in that did similarly.

On the point of intelligence both people you mention are intelligent people but I don’t see the comparison if it where to come down to some post apoplectic scenario who I’d rather have.

If our Alien overlords throw us into an intergalactic ‘The weakest link’ we may do better having old Fry in our corner over Guy MacGyver Martin..

Education and academic types are important as I’m sure you would be more comfortable visiting your university degree holding and medically trained dentist than auld willy down behind the bookies who watched 20 YouTube videos.

I'd still go for Guy Martin though if he can get the 3.2 litre V6 out of my broken Merc and put it in my Hilux over a few cans of Stella.

That is what happens when ‘news’ networks have to sell their souls to make a living. All yee who campaign for the BBC to become self-funding should take a look at the US, and see how much worse it could be. Or even just Sky News if you can’t be arsed looking that far.

Then they are no longer a source of anything worth paying for. I have cancelled my licence and will end Sky as soon as my contract is up in a month or so. It's all pretty much pointless as you learn nothing. Plenty of credible content online these days.

The riots and looting have all been by Antifa and BLM groups, unless you think they are Trump supporters??

Would you argue that Trump has done anything other than inflame those tensions though, much as he is fuelling dissent with his ‘it’s not fair’ tantrums currently?

He will keep stoking that fire, likely via his demented midnight tweeting sessions, to keep the believers onside for his 2024 comeback. Well, up until the point where his attention is distracted by another shiny thing anyway.

Ah.
Stephen Fry.
About his only contribution to society is to pronounce...
"One sheet for wiping and one sheet for polishing".
Andrex would go bust if we took his lead.

The full extent of destruction not covered by the Clinton press.
Trump had to go to Kenosha himself for the press to cover the damage that looked like a war zone.

You tube search if you don’t believe me.
