After last night we’ve got as much standing water as last year. A bit depressing to say the least, especially when those further down aren’t bothering to clean out ditches and Natural England are raising the water level in the Mere to create more wetland , where the outfall is .

Here everything is behind where I would want it. WB 50% ok but wants Mn and some needs herb. 40% poor and 10% disaster. WW 50% ok 30% very late but patchy, 20%bloody wet and not properly emerged. Luckily this last isn’t sprayed. Winter linseed best crop but needs spraying. Beans half in bag, rest not emerged or sprayed. Some spring ground flooded. So like last year in a fudging muddle again.

Winter Barley DD’ed into Spring Barley stubble in mid-October. It’s really not liking the wet feet, like on every other field here, but perks up a bit every time the water table drops a bit.
No record yields next year anyway. Time to turn away and not look at it for 6 weeks, or move to Devon @Jerry 😂

Mixed bag in N Yorks. Earlier sown osr needs a good frost to pull it back. The last sown osr is disappearing into the beaks of pigeons. Cereals look ok but lots of big puddles in fields and some land drains need attention. No drilling since 10th October as it hasn’t stopped raining long enough. Still 1/3 of the winter cereals to drill. Anything forced in locally is looking poor and the headlands are just a sea of mud.

This was supposed to be a second wheat but I’m struggling to ride the quad bike over the stubble, never mind a plough and combi drill.

Well Brisel seeing it in the photo I should be thankful it is not a field of second wheat! Best wishes for the New Year.

Zyate wheat drilled end September After spring beans

Crops look a lot better than this time last year
all wheat drilled 4 times the 2020 area
winter linseed established well but too wet for crawler just as last year
no rape planted last years never made
crops still too wet as they were this time last year
the wet autumn will have not done crops any favours February last year was a shocker and kicked us all in the proverbial s
need a drier start for 2021 or yields will be under pressure next harvest

We always come out of winter at field capacity. Just as long as it's not falling out of the sky quicker than it drains away. Crops still ok. Can't wait for some warmth though. And some longer, drier days.

Drains running since mid October. Top dried well, but has been hugely wet since December. Hugely. Haven't measured it. Don't need to. Few clear, frosty days were great but has been fog, snow or rain every other day.

I was pleased when I opened it but now wish id never seen the ______ thing still musnt be churlish as twas from mrs 4 course ,though can now see complaining/moaning about the weather being backed up factually and not helping the calm here

Mrs teslacoils got me a barometer one year.....she Taps it while I'm sat on the sofa, scowling at the rain.
