Some cover crops and a low disturbance drill soon sort that.......or not.
After last night we’ve got as much standing water as last year. A bit depressing to say the least, especially when those further down aren’t bothering to clean out ditches and Natural England are raising the water level in the Mere to create more wetland , where the outfall is .
Not far from the Mere. A lot of our water ends up there after going into a big pipe on my neighbours, then under the road . It’s now a Sssi. The other problem is house building and one neighbour who couldn’t care less .How far upstream are you?
Winter Barley DD’ed into Spring Barley stubble in mid-October. It’s really not liking the wet feet, like on every other field here, but perks up a bit every time the water table drops a bit.
No record yields next year anyway. Time to turn away and not look at it for 6 weeks, or move to Devon @Jerry

Mixed bag in N Yorks. Earlier sown osr needs a good frost to pull it back. The last sown osr is disappearing into the beaks of pigeons. Cereals look ok but lots of big puddles in fields and some land drains need attention. No drilling since 10th October as it hasn’t stopped raining long enough. Still 1/3 of the winter cereals to drill. Anything forced in locally is looking poor and the headlands are just a sea of mud.
This was supposed to be a second wheat but I’m struggling to ride the quad bike over the stubble, never mind a plough and combi drill.

Suppose you could dig it out and rent it to the fishermen
4 acres of that field under water. Needs redraining really. Even a stewardship option won’t thrive underwater.
I hope youve put anti freeze in the sprayer ? or else it wont beHappy New Year, folks!

weve had 55mm since boxing day , im going to throw my xmas present away (rain gauge )we are at field capacity ffsWe always come out of winter at field capacity. Just as long as it's not falling out of the sky quicker than it drains away. Crops still ok. Can't wait for some warmth though. And some longer, drier days.
