Chinese demand for Australian and NZ lamb has made their lamb unaffordable to supermarkets in this country for quite a few years now, UK price was around £110 one period last winter and I was talking to a friend in NZ and he was getting Sterling £160 and still some lamb was coming to this country from there but supermarkets said they were supporting British farmers and moving towards mainly home produced meat, they didn’t say it cost £50%+ more for imported...

Glad it’s up and hopefully it’ll hold at these levels for a long time!

Were they dear?

That would be one word to describe trade!!

They were easily £150 head up on pre xmas and some would i think be up £200 head on the last market pre xmas.

One of the dearest if the not the dearest store cattle trades i have ever seen at any market in the SW today at Sedge.

The dearest cattle were the 400 kilo summer grazing cattle, hardly any of these less than 1k and many £1150/1180 head for both steers and heifers.

No end of strong cattle £1200/1300+, some £1360/ and topped out at £1400..

Even very plain 450 ish kilo Fri/HF steers were £1000 head at the drop of a hat..

I can see some of the big lamb finishers gifted with foresight driving
around in lamborghinis in a new Kronenbourg spin off.🏎
It's nice to see this sector adding more value to British agriculture.(y)

What are peoples thoughts on store cattle prices, do you think they are going to go up or not?

I don't know whether to stick or twist.
