Did anyone ever work out the cost to farmers of the whole fiasco of foot and mouth?
Millions of lambs and cattle sold at way below Cost of production.
Vast mumbers of sheep dying from lack of feed and attendance
And not a penny of compensation from the govt that caused it
And piled on top of similiar bse fiasco

Really is hard to watch those 4 films, however I think it was really well done and a brilliant piece of film to document such an awful time. Anyone who doesnt understand foot and mouth or think farmers only keep animals for money should be made to watch it. Dad knows quite a few who were featured and the only positive for me is that my grandad is shown laughing and joking at skipton auction, a place he spent many an hour after he retired shortly before getting alzheimers.

It wont be on record what farmers lost who werent culled

There is no figure for that specific aspect.

.

Suggests £3.1billion lost from the food chain - but that encompasses all sectors not just farm.

I don’t think any amount of money would compensate for watching your healthy cows and sheep being shot in your yard and looking at the dead body’s for days before they collected them!
It’s the stuff of nightmares
And next time anyone is moaning about the six day movement rule... remind yourselves what happens when foot and mouth comes into your area..

And had to accept pee poor prices for a yr when markets were closed

My heart bloody bleeds. You're still here, still farming.

Do you want to have gone through what us in D&G and Cumbria - and farther South - went through psychologically so that the likes of yourself never saw it first hand?! You never had to deal with seeing your livelihood being killed Infront of you.
