What with the cost of inputs now we are no better off in real terms with these farm gate prices than 12 months ago!

2/3 people that had 100 + hoggs each booked in for deadweight next week told me that they were pulling them out at the prices being quoted DW for next week!

I see Honiton collection centre are quoting the same price for this Monday as last Monday yet deadweight is 20ppk less!
I thought Honiton has been way low over recent weeks. Well below South Molton SQQ.

Do you think they dropped the dead weight prices cos they think they will go dearer so they got some where to go

Personally cant see them going up anymore ..remember they have to process and sell it...but what does a dopey farmer know

All comes down to supply and demand, i was told today that the reason for the hogg price drop is because the plants have far more hoggs booked in for next week than any week for the last 2/3 months, no doubt a lot of people that had them on roots/ new seeds etc need them gone to put in the next crop/ shut up for silage etc so once the next 2 or so weeks are out of the way the price could well jump back up.

Last few years the prices in April/May have actually been worse than June/July!

Got told something similar. Apparently everyone is off loading lambs all at once.so they've pulled the price.also two short killing weeks due to easter.spoke to a lad who had 2000 left last week.said they'd all be sold in next 2 weeks.

Pretty simple rule of mathematics.
If /when they are short of numbers or in fear of the price rising they drop the price to bring sheep forward
Be interesting to see what numbers in markets this week and what the prices does..........with the prices where they have been can't see many been hanging on whats been fit has gone surely...... Can't really see there being a glut of hoggs now really

Sheep aren’t about they are likely to go up in a week or two
They are still good where they are though
Problem is you only sell them once so you want the best trade you can get
