Tariffs axed immediately on Australian beef and lamb, triggering fears that farmers will be sent ‘to the wall’

Tariffs will be scrapped immediately on imported beef and lamb from Australia, triggering accusations that the trade deal struck by Boris Johnson will send UK farmers “to the wall”.

The small print of the first major post-Brexit agreement – revealed by Canberra, as the UK government tried to keep it under wraps – revealed a pledge to protect farmers for 15 years has been dropped.

Instead, Australian farmers will effectively be handed tariff-free access from day one, up to a “cap” on sales that is 60 times the current level of imported beef, writes The Independent’s deputy political editor Rob Merrick.

Wages. Animal welfare conditions. Farming practices. Wages. Wages wages.
Wages is something non of us can avoid, the rest we should be able to, you can bet our wage bill is higher than yours still.
TB testing every animal either every 60 or 180 days depending if you have had a single TB reactor & then forced to turn the cattle back out onto pastures that TB infected badgers run protected by jail time if you shoot the little buggers, try putting up with that for a start.

Proof, if ever proof was needed, that the EU was really on its game, when they presented the NI Protocol deal to Bunter, and told him where to sign.
Skippy‘s getting no free lunch in EUland….

Free movement of people between NZ and UK is a pipe dream of the CANZUK brigade wanting to live in the past "glorious" days of Empire, never going to happen!

I don't need (or want!) free movement for anyone else, just me.

Interestingly, it has been reported that this deal with Oz is going to be worth 0.02% increase to our GDP.
I wonder what the reverse figure will be?

Of course, the real issue is not this particular deal but the fact that it is a Trojan Horse for other deals that could be far more damaging.

Never mind, in Liz Truss we ... er .. trust
She's the cheese Tsar don't you know

Maybe we can get some Oz kit back here like proper Yota Utes based on the FJ or I can get the NZ only Honda XLR190 bike now (emissions dear boy it's only a one-way street of course)

All anyone needs is a level playing field, you wouldn’t expect one eyed Aussie cricketers to compete with two eyed Brits, of course the Aussies still might win but that’s not the point!
I love that Oz joke doing the rounds on FB about the Kiwis asking why the feck are they calling him Keth when his name's Keith and then realising he only had one eye :ROFLMAO:
