Depends on how much you value your own time!

I've put far too much energy and effort into my sucklers to let them go, basically priceless to me at this point especially when they do this:View attachment 973848
This attachment to cattle could be the end of your business economics must come first.

Two family pets Clifford and 3751 leave the farm tomorrow. One a second calver the other a third. I have enough cows calving by the 11th of November. Ones due on 17th other on the 21st. They will leave with another 30 late calvers.

It was discussed but the same rule is applied to all. We can't wait a week for one cow just because she likes her head scratching.

Perhaps I'm heartless but I know I'm profitable.

I'll clarify, the sucklers are profitable (currently more profitable than the dairy cows but that will change eventually) and therefore are kept, they also help the overall business's cash flow, they also are not mine to sell, I also like them and really enjoy them and it's nice to have a change from the milking parlour and black and whites

Bertha is kept for 2 reasons, I love her being the main one, the second being it pisses everyone on here off which also makes me smile as sometimes everyone on here is very black and white about whether something is right or wrong whereas I like to think theres a lot of grey area inbetweeners black and white

Profit is obviously needed but i often remind myself that when i die i cant take it with me so may as well enjoy what i do whilst i can, and if that means spending £500 a year to keep an extra passenger instead of blowing £100 in the pub every week then I'm quite happy

There is either something very wrong with your business plan or you don't actually understand your current numbers
Suckler cows break even and sfp generates the farms profit I would like anyone to show me any different.
To say your cow and calf are worth 1800 but were only worth 1000 last year so they've made 700 profit would only show an understanding of profit if you sold them

How can you say whether my business is profitable without knowing anything about my business other than I have suckler cows and dairy cows?

I'm not saying the sucklers are making £800 profit, I'm saying they're profitable, I'm not going to put up my gross margins, net profit, etc on here for the world to see but they're profitable enough that I can justify keeping them from a financial point of view, which makes me happy

Due to loans, ingoings, start up costs etc the dairy cows probably won't be profitable until the third year, so having 50-60 suckler that are profitable NOW helps to pay for the dairy cows until they are profitable, if I could persuade dad to sell the sucklers a large portion of the dairy cows debt could be paid off and therefore they would probably be profitable from next year, but of course the side effect of that is i would be miserable for the months surrounding the sale. I've costed this all out in the past and would rather keep them and have to wait an extra year to be profitable than sell them now and spend the next 12 months crying at the thought of them.

I know I come across as completely inept, stupid and incapable on here (partly because I'm quite happy to share my mistakes and ask for advice on how to prevent new ones or remedy ones I have made whereas a certain proportion on here seem to be perfect) but there is a brain cell or two in my head, one is usually thinking about Bertha and where the other is is sometimes a mystery but they are there somewhere

A suckler cow will generate perhaps £600 income after 12 months. A half decent milker will generate that sort of income in 2 or 3 months and about £1500 in a year (plus a calf)

If your dairy cows aren't making money, there's something seriously wrong.

From your comments re the sucklers not being "yours" but if your dad sold them the money could be used to reduce your dairy cow debts, I take it that you aren't farming on your own account but in some sort of partnership with your family?
