Again, no idea. Its the less fit crop that you can thrash hard and tight and the straw will come out looking like it went in! The fit barley you slow the drum and drop the concave and it still will come out like chaff. 6500hrs combine driving and none of them on farm simulator

Something is wrong with either your combine/ the crop ( or both ) this year at this stage in the harvest if you are thrashing the straw to pieces to get the awns off!
Balancing act at the end of the day, straw quality V the awns and you would rather have a clean grain sample which is fair enough.

That straw sample is not smashed up anything like it normally is the case from a rotary combine.
And from the picture your straw sample looks fine and not anywhere near as bad as you seem to think it is.

Should put up your location it helps sometimes.
Done a lot of drilling round your neck of the woods years ago through Paul Yabsley (spelling) he used to sell grass seed and such like down round there, 20 odd years ago now, did you know him ?
