Trailered or self propelled sprayers

Biggest risk is hydro pump or motor failure, if there is any oil dripping from wheel motors, they are due a rebuild; they tell me are £2.5k a pop but if you know of a trustworthy hydraulics specialist maybe can be done for less...
I just had my leaking wheel motor of a Househam Spirit done for £250 labour is cheaper here but parts more expensive the trick is to stop as soon as you see the leak.

Do all the spring spraying on my 'fat tyres' (16.9's which I'm sure is a row crop for the big boys anyway) then swap onto the row crops in June. That tractor is pretty much left on the sprayer till harvest but it can still do odd jobs like turning hay etc with the row crops on.
Back wheels are water loaded so its a 2 man job for 45 mins to change them. Thinking about a wheel changer thingy for next year.
Get the wheel changer thingy ASAP. I got one a few years ago and love it. Makes the job far safer and far easier. You won’t regret it l, I wish I’d got mine years ago.

Looking at Adam Hensons tramlines on Countrypile last week I reckon he uses Terra -Tyres all year round!

Or count that money, and that from not needing the ‘spare tractor’, towards the cost of an ageing SP for the OP……

The poor things need to go somewhere in retirement.

I’d still get a wheel changer thingy, ‘cause there are always wheels that need changing.

for that acerage a mounted 1200L 24m would do just fine
I agree. I said at the start of the thread, buy a trailed so you're just spending money on the sprayer not an engine, cab etc.
We now know its for 150 acres and there's 2 tractors so I'll go further and say a 24m mounted would be good, you're removing a set of wheels and tyres from the, things to go wrong, list then too.

I have a 3000 litre SP sprayer on 200 acre cereals, it’s actually my 2nd as it replaced a 2000 litre SP machine earlier this year,

yes it’s not a big area and if I only had 200 acre corn to spray and nothing else to do I could do it with a 1000 litre 12m mounted one.
however there’s other stuff going on so I’ve made the spraying a quick and easy job to do which also means timings are spot on 99% of the time.

40 acre to do this aft. Be a hour or so job from start to finish.

Tractors can stay hitched up to harvesting kit ready to go.

this would be my way of thinking too. i know you can get trailed sprayers the same width as SP, but i think its a bit like the BIG M argument, yes they are only the same width as a large set of triples, but the output isnt even close. bit of a bad example as SP sprayers are a lot cheaper than a big M, so easier to justify an SP sprayer with a bit of time pressure.

Enlighten an old fart please - What's a BIG M? When I googled it all that came up was a Big Mac, and I can't believe that a Big Mac costs more than a SP sprayer !

Got a chaviot, will match any new 24m self propelled spot rate. It was less than 10k with 2 sets of wheels and covers my 250ac crops and neighbours 50-100ac easily.

If you want suspension, climate control, quiet cab, 50kph, Bluetooth etc buy a trailed sprayer. Noone seems to take into account with this argument tho that if you have a new 120hp tractor pulling the trailed, the tractor is depreciating £10/hr plus. A cheap old SP wont be anywhere near as much.

Edit no idea why you'd actively look for a 12m, there is probably far less choice to start with than tidy 15k 24m traileds. I would look for 12/24 folding tho if you have any awkward corners

Only other factor would be your drill width and fert tub

If a farmer with 1500 acres spent 150,000 on a sprayer nobody would blink an eye. But God forbid someone with 10% of the acres spends 10% of the money people loose their minds.
The fact that you are a mechanic and can keep it going easily for 15 years mean it should cost a minimal amount per year.

Get it bought.

Sometimes I think it's as if the big boys think us small lads dont deserve to use big machinery. As if we should spend every minute working with small antiquated machinery.

I still think a brand new shiny mounted 12 metre with some modern gadgets. Is less work over 20 years than anything second hand if you take into account time on maintance. Also less storage space needed & a cheaper quicker annual MOT.

Storage is quite a big deal, compact machine taking up little space might even consider heated store if work needs to be done very early or late in the season.
