I think it's gone up in last monththankfully it was not for us, 10% still puts it at £900, which is still a big 'ouch', and that price would have been 4 wks ago.

Flat with you, we have had real chop at Cawsands eating chips being rinsed in sea spray!Cant beat a good team and some vet students. Calving is more of a struggle this year. View attachment 984291

We are near Callington, so we either go Cawsands on the south or Port Gavern on the north coast. We are exactly 52 mins from each! Wife and I love water, so when ever we can we head for the coast. Have promised ourselves our next farm has to be coastal. Are you in SE Cornwall then? I don't know why but i always had you down as much further away. I don't have to get too far offshore for Cawsands to seem very nearby.
Its so refreshing and nearly warm this time of year. Once your in that is!We are near Callington, so we either go Cawsands on the south or Port Gavern on the north coast. Cant beat after a hot day doing physical work, couple of healthy calves, stock content with sun on their backs, sea and fish and chips. A very basic life but a happy oneIts so refreshing and nearly warm this time of year. Once your in that is!
Never seen oats like that in my life34mm last Friday night. Watering put off. Then the state government announced a supplementary water event due to heavy rainfall in the catchments downstream of the storages. This means water used during this time does not come off the amount they allocate us.
So...... despite it being wet. I, like alot of arable farmers , are watering..As it's coming into Spring here and it certainly wont hurt it to be as wet as possible.....(other point is if you had to buy the water instead of it being off allocation, then it would cost me$1650×7 dys to replace it @$110/meg at the moment)... 3°c last night...water to check at 11pm, then 2.30am..not much fun checking water. Particularly when its oats and a heavy dew...(oats are self sown).
Then of course there was a lazy arsed heifer to calve ...So back too bed at 3.30am for an hour and a bit....

Self sown from last years silage regrowth. Grew enough to set seed but we didt get enough spring rain nor water allocated early enough to cut them for hay. They're lacking a bit of nitrogen (cant afford it atm at over $800/tonne) they did get 100kg/ha of sulphate of ammonia a month ago.Never seen oats like that in my life
